It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons) and India (X tons), together generating a 25% share of total exports. Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

At the same time, Turkey (+43.8%), Jordan (+21.7%) and India (+12.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest melon seed supplier in Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 5.6% share.

In China, melon seed exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+35.4% per year) and Turkey (+9.6% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, melon seed imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

India prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), committing a 7.3% share of total imports.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the melon seed imports, with a CAGR of +69.6% from 2012 to 2022. Vietnam (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India increased by +86 percentage points.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported melon seed in Asia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while India totaled $X per ton.
