Twine, cordage or textile net exports soared to X tons in 2021, growing by 20% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +80.7% against 2012 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together committing a 19% share of total exports. India (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to twine, cordage or textile net exports from China stood at +8.5%. At the same time, Malaysia (+12.5%), India (+8.8%), Vietnam (+6.0%), Thailand (+3.3%) and Japan (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +12.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+8.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-1.8 p.p.), Japan (-2 p.p.) and South Korea (-2.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest twine, cordage or textile net supplier in Asia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.6% share.
In China, twine, cordage or textile net exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+3.1% per year) and Thailand (+1.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 5.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
Twine, cordage or textile net imports dropped to X tons in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 9% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net imports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 6.3%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented roughly 35% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and India (X tons), together mixing up a 30% share of total imports. The Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Yemen (X tons), China (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 48% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Thailand, China, Yemen, Taiwan (Chinese), the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 35%.
Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +22.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 4.4%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
