In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of network communications equipment, when their volume decreased by -8.3% to X units. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, network communications equipment exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

China was the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units), together achieving a 37% share of total exports. Singapore (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of network communications equipment. At the same time, Vietnam (+48.0%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.4%), Singapore (+9.3%) and Malaysia (+7.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +48.0% from 2012-2022. Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Vietnam (+8.4 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.7 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.1 p.p.) and Singapore (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR and China saw its share reduced by -3.7% and -13.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest network communications equipment supplying countries in Asia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 88% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +50.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+21.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of network communications equipment increased by 8.1% to X units, rising for the sixth year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
