China (X tons) and India (X tons) dominates exports structure, together generating 82% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 5.3% share, followed by Pakistan (4.8%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest noils of wool supplier in Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.9% share.
In China, noils of wool exports declined by an average annual rate of -5.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-2.9% per year) and Thailand (+19.0% per year).

In 2021, overseas purchases of noils of wool or fine animal hair were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 181% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, noils of wool imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 134%. China was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 57% of total imports. Japan (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (7.9%) and South Korea (5.1%). Turkey (X tons), India (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into China decreased at an average annual rate of -13.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+66.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +66.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-7.9%), Japan (-9.7%), Turkey (-14.7%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-14.9%) and India (-20.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Japan and South Korea increased by +7.9, +4.7 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest noils of wool importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), the United Arab Emirates and India, which together accounted for a further 9.2%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +32.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -1.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+15.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
