In 2022, imports of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in Asia contracted significantly to X tons, declining by -16.7% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
China prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 65% of total imports in 2022. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.2% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (7.9%). The following importers - Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) - each reached a 7.4% share of total imports.
Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+13.3%) and Bangladesh (+12.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2022. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Vietnam (-3.3%), Hong Kong SAR (-8.2%) and Indonesia (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+17 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-1.7 p.p.), Indonesia (-4.5 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-16.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in Asia, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 2.3% share.
In China, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+7.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+10.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded strong growth.
