Non-Electrical Lamp Market Size in Asia

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Asian non-electrical lamp market, when its value decreased by -10.4% to $X. The total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +88.6% against 2012 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, when their volume increased by 36% to X units. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. India (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012-2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest non-electrical lamp supplier in Asia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports.

In China, non-electrical lamp exports declined by an average annual rate of -1.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while China stood at $X per unit.

For the fourth year in a row, Asia recorded growth in overseas purchases of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, which increased by 21% to X units in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand was the main importer of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings in Asia, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 48% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X units) held a 7.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (6%) and the United Arab Emirates (4.5%). Israel (X units), Indonesia (X units), Japan (X units), South Korea (X units), Singapore (X units), Vietnam (X units), Kuwait (X units), Iraq (X units) and Cambodia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings imports, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+24.1%), Malaysia (+14.7%), Israel (+5.5%), Japan (+4.7%), South Korea (+4.2%), Iraq (+3.1%), Kuwait (+3.0%) and Vietnam (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.8%), Singapore (-8.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand and Malaysia increased by +41 and +4.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X), India ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 31% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Israel, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +23.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
