After three years of growth, the Asian non-medical x-ray market decreased by -14.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, recorded a strong increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray production fell dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports in Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of non-medical x-rays increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 29%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 40% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Japan (11%), Taiwan (Chinese) (7.8%) and South Korea (6.9%). The following exporters - Singapore (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - each reached a 6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +26.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 76% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese) and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 18%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +30.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -12.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays imported in Asia rose slightly to X tons, increasing by 4.2% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the major importer of non-medical x-rays, mixing up 26% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took an 8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (6.9%), Turkey (6.4%), Hong Kong SAR (5.4%), South Korea (5.4%), Malaysia (4.8%), Vietnam (4.7%) and Japan (4.7%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+16.7%), Hong Kong SAR (+16.1%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+15.1%), Singapore (+14.1%), Vietnam (+14.0%), Turkey (+9.0%), Thailand (+7.7%), Malaysia (+6.7%), Saudi Arabia (+4.9%), South Korea (+3.2%), Japan (+2.3%) and Qatar (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. India (+3.9 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (+2.9 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.2 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Korea, Japan and China saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2.1% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-medical x-rays in Asia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 4.8% share.
In China, non-medical x-ray imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+4.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
