China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 48% of total exports. Japan (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (9.8%) and Singapore (8.4%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+29.0%), South Korea (+3.2%) and Japan (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012-2021. Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+7.1 p.p.) and China (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia and Japan saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2.8% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X), Singapore ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 67% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Singapore, with a CAGR of +30.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -17.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
