Market Size for Optical Fibers and Bundles in Asia
The Asian optical fiber and bundle market declined to $X in 2022, dropping by -14.2% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +1.3% against 2020 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +8.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, approx. X tons of optical fibers and bundles were exported in Asia; growing by 53% compared with the previous year. In general, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 129%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a prominent increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) was the key exporter of optical fibers and bundles, committing 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), achieving a 24% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +19.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, China (+31.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2022. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and India increased by +17 and +14 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest optical fiber and bundle supplying countries in Asia were China ($X), India ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 86% share of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Optical Fibers and Bundles
Imports in Asia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of optical fibers and bundles increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Imports by Country
India represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 31% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 33% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to optical fiber and bundle imports into India stood at +10.3%. At the same time, Myanmar (+37.5%), Thailand (+29.7%), Kazakhstan (+19.8%), the United Arab Emirates (+18.5%), Vietnam (+12.2%), South Korea (+9.7%), Saudi Arabia (+8.6%), Israel (+7.7%), Turkey (+6.9%) and Indonesia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +37.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-4.6%) and China (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+12 p.p.), Thailand (+7.6 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+3.1 p.p.), Myanmar (+2.9 p.p.), South Korea (+1.9 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia, Malaysia and China saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -5.1% and -23% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported optical fibers and bundles in Asia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 6.8% share.
In China, optical fiber and bundle imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+11.0% per year) and South Korea (+4.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -4.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
