In value terms, orange juice (single strength) production dropped modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +49.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Orange juice (single strength) exports fell modestly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -2.5% compared with 2020 figures. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +62.3% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Cyprus (X tons) represented roughly 55% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (8.6%) and Kuwait (6.9%). Israel (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Cyprus ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 60% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +23.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 10% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Cyprus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of orange juice (single strength) increased by 7.5% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the key importer of orange juice (single strength), comprising 42% of total imports. Japan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.4% share, followed by South Korea (6.5%) and Saudi Arabia (5.1%). The following importers - Singapore (X tons), Israel (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Georgia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to orange juice (single strength) imports into China stood at +31.3%. At the same time, Israel (+82.3%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+32.3%), South Korea (+18.2%), Georgia (+5.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +82.3% from 2012-2021. Japan and Bahrain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.3%), Singapore (-6.3%), Saudi Arabia (-9.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+38 p.p.), South Korea (+5.2 p.p.), Israel (+3.5 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore, Hong Kong SAR and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -3.7% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported orange juice (single strength) in Asia, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.7% share.
In China, orange juice (single strength) imports expanded at an average annual rate of +26.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+1.0% per year) and South Korea (+15.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
