In 2021, China (X tons) represented the key exporter of activated natural mineral products, committing 58% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by India (15%) and Thailand (4.9%). Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +5.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+13.3% per year) and Indonesia (+1.7% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 3.5%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), South Korea ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, Japan and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Among the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +23.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 1.7%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
