Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, exports of animal fats and oils in Asia-Pacific soared to X tons, rising by 119% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 131%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, animal fats exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 193%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), achieving a 5.3% share of total exports. South Korea (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the animal fats and oils exports, with a CAGR of +335.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Australia (+116.5%), Vietnam (+26.1%), South Korea (+23.1%) and Indonesia (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Australia increased by +85 and +5.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest animal fats supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 7% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +237.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Australia (+50.1% per year) and Indonesia (+7.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -19.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 58%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
Animal fats imports soared to X tons in 2021, jumping by 53% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, animal fats imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Bangladesh (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) represented roughly 47% of total imports in 2021. New Zealand (X tons) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (8.4%), Japan (7.8%), the Philippines (6%) and Australia (4.5%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +75.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest animal fats importing markets in Asia-Pacific were South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and New Zealand ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. Australia, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +50.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -16.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+14.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
