Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, antibiotic exports stood at $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) represented the major exporter of antibiotics, creating 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), committing an 11% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of antibiotics. India (-1.5%) and Singapore (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest antibiotic supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
In China, antibiotic exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (-1.4% per year) and Singapore (+3.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 119% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of antibiotics increased by 8.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.8% share, followed by Thailand (7.9%) and Indonesia (4.8%). Bangladesh (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Japan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bangladesh (+8.1%), Pakistan (+5.9%), the Philippines (+5.0%) and Thailand (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +8.1% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese), Japan, South Korea and Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.5%) and Vietnam (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+14 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-1.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antibiotics in Asia-Pacific, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 6.7% share.
In India, antibiotic imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-7.3% per year) and Vietnam (+2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
