The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), mixing up a 5.6% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -7.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, India (+27.5%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. In China, asbestos exports decreased by an average annual rate of -7.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+56.0% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+13.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, waning by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 16%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, asbestos imports in Asia-Pacific was estimated at X tons, approximately mirroring the year before. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, asbestos imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) was the largest importer of asbestoses, mixing up 50% of total imports. China (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Indonesia (13%). The following importers - Thailand (X tons), Sri Lanka (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.

Imports into India decreased at an average annual rate of -1.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bangladesh (+25.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +25.3% from 2012-2022. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.1%), Thailand (-4.9%), Sri Lanka (-5.2%) and Vietnam (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+4.6 p.p.), China (+3.8 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Vietnam saw its share reduced by -1.5%, -3% and -4.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported asbestoses in Asia-Pacific, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in India stood at -2.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-2.0% per year) and Indonesia (-5.3% per year).

In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent.
