The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), committing a 6.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - New Zealand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each reached a 5.7% share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, New Zealand (+15.7%) and Thailand (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+9.1 p.p.) and New Zealand (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia saw its share reduced by -1.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest barbed wire supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 2.3% share.
In China, barbed wire exports increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+4.1% per year) and New Zealand (+15.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, growing by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, barbed wire imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Philippines (X tons) represented the key importer of barbed wire and entanglements, mixing up 33% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (7.2%), Australia (7.1%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (6.4%) and India (4.6%). Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +19.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+29.1%), Thailand (+25.7%), Myanmar (+19.2%), India (+12.8%), South Korea (+8.3%) and Malaysia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +29.1% from 2012-2021. Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Australia (-9.7%), Singapore (-11.4%) and Indonesia (-15.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+24 p.p.), Thailand (+12 p.p.), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+5.6 p.p.), South Korea (+2.6 p.p.), India (+2.6 p.p.) and Myanmar (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-9.1 p.p.), Singapore (-12.7 p.p.) and Australia (-16.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Thailand ($X) and Australia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 42% share of total imports.
The Philippines, with a CAGR of +27.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
