Baryte Market Size in Asia-Pacific

After three years of growth, the Asia-Pacific baryte market decreased by -12.8% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +64.3% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the largest exporter of barytes, generating 57% of total exports. China (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons). In terms of the main exporting countries, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +19.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of barytes decreased by -0.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baryte imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the largest importers of barytes in Asia-Pacific, together mixing up 42% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by South Korea (10%), China (8.1%), Japan (7%) and Australia (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +48.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
