In value terms, agglomerated powder rod exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw noticeable growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) represented the key exporter of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder, achieving 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together creating a 25% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -1.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+20.2%), Japan (+13.7%) and Malaysia (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +20.2% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Korea (+6.7 p.p.), Japan (+4.4 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Taiwan (Chinese) and China saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -5.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) emerged as the largest agglomerated powder rod supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +6.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+2.9% per year) and South Korea (+29.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 92% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder decreased by -1.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Japan prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. The Philippines (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.3% share, followed by Indonesia (4.6%). Thailand (X tons), Australia (X tons), China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), India (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Japan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder imports, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+10.5%), South Korea (+7.4%), Thailand (+5.1%) and India (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-1.6%), China (-6.2%) and Indonesia (-18.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Japan (+42 p.p.) and the Philippines (+5.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while China and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -3.7% and -28.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. In value terms, the largest agglomerated powder rod importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +19.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 21%.
