Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
For the fifth year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in shipments abroad of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs, which increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, battered fish fillet exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - each amounted to an 8.2% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs exports, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+6.1%) and Thailand (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of China (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-2.5 p.p.) and Thailand (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest battered fish fillet supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +11.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+3.2% per year) and Thailand (+6.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 9.3%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, purchases abroad of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 7.3%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, battered fish fillet imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan was the main importer of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 62% of total imports in 2021. South Korea (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Australia (X tons). All these countries together took near 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Cambodia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs. At the same time, Thailand (+29.0%), Cambodia (+12.4%), South Korea (+6.1%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012-2021. Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Korea (+3.6 p.p.), Cambodia (+1.9 p.p.) and Thailand (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Japan (-8.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs in Asia-Pacific, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 9.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Japan amounted to -2.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+4.5% per year) and Australia (+5.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
