Beryl Market Size in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the Asia-Pacific beryl market decreased by -15.5% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +40.5% against 2017 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Beryl Production in Asia-Pacific
In value terms, beryl production dropped dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 81%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, overseas shipments of beryl were finally on the rise to reach X kg after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 688%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, beryl exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 484%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Japan (X kg) represented the main exporter of beryl, making up 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X kg), creating a 23% share of total exports. India (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Japan decreased at an average annual rate of -14.3% from 2012 to 2021. India (-2.2%) and Singapore (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore, Japan and India increased by +11, +6.7 and +3.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($X) emerged as the largest beryl supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
In Japan, beryl exports declined by an average annual rate of -12.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+13.9% per year) and Singapore (-26.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+16.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Beryl Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of beryl, when their volume decreased by -36.4% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 150%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, beryl imports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 743% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
China represented the main importer of beryl in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to beryl imports into China stood at +31.4%. At the same time, Malaysia (+49.1%) and Thailand (+46.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +49.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of China (+21 p.p.), Malaysia (+18 p.p.) and Thailand (+13 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beryl in Asia-Pacific, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 0.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +26.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+38.3% per year) and Thailand (+20.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 38% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 238%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
