The Asia-Pacific brazil nut market fell modestly to $X in 2021, declining by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Hong Kong SAR (X tons) remains the largest brazil nut producing country in Asia-Pacific, accounting for 56% of total volume. Moreover, brazil nut production in Hong Kong SAR exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Thailand (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Hong Kong SAR was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+0.3% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.3% per year).

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, shipments abroad of brazil nuts was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 208%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brazil nut exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 51% of total exports. Afghanistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons). All these countries together took near 45% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to brazil nut exports from Hong Kong SAR stood at -8.9%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+34.8%), Afghanistan (+8.6%), China (+7.1%) and Vietnam (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +34.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Afghanistan (+13 p.p.), China (+7.3 p.p.), Vietnam (+7.1 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -4.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the largest brazil nut supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Hong Kong SAR totaled -2.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+23.8% per year) and Sri Lanka (+41.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 65% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of brazil nuts imported in Asia-Pacific soared to X tons, growing by 18% against 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, brazil nut imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 28%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Vietnam prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), achieving a 5.4% share of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brazil nuts imports, with a CAGR of +14.2% from 2012 to 2021. India (-10.8%) and Hong Kong SAR (-30.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Vietnam increased by +68 percentage points.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brazil nuts in Asia-Pacific, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports.
In Vietnam, brazil nut imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-13.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-30.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -14.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 8.6%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
