In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of brewing or distilling dregs and waste, when their volume decreased by -22.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 170%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, brewing dregs exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 208% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Exports by Country
Australia was the largest exporter of brewing or distilling dregs and waste in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 58% of total exports in 2022. Vietnam (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by India (7.7%), China (6.8%) and South Korea (5%). Singapore (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Australia increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+74.9%), India (+70.2%) and Nepal (+48.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +74.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-3.3%), Vietnam (-5.3%) and China (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Australia (+42 p.p.), India (+7.6 p.p.), South Korea (+5 p.p.) and Nepal (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-2.2 p.p.), Vietnam (-19 p.p.) and China (-30.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest brewing dregs supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia totaled +20.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+0.0% per year) and India (+84.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, overseas purchases of brewing or distilling dregs and waste decreased by -7.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 35%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brewing dregs imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the largest importers of brewing or distilling dregs and waste in Asia-Pacific, together reaching near 49% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Japan (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons), together generating a 33% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for New Zealand (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest brewing dregs importing markets in Asia-Pacific were South Korea ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 61% of total imports. Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan (Chinese) and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
New Zealand, with a CAGR of +24.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
