The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented roughly 67% of total exports in 2021. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (5.2%) and Japan (5%). Malaysia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +43.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 74% of total exports. Singapore, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Taiwan (Chinese) and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +34.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In general, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 68%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, China (X tons) represented the main importer of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides, achieving 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together mixing up a 23% share of total imports.
