In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together making up a 47% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden joinery and carpentry exports from China stood at +1.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+31.3%), Indonesia (+7.6%), Thailand (+4.3%) and Malaysia (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-21.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+12 p.p.), China (+10 p.p.), Indonesia (+9.8 p.p.) and Malaysia (+4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Philippines (-32.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.
In China, wooden joinery and carpentry exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+6.2% per year) and Vietnam (+32.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 30%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Builders' Joinery And Carpentry Of Wood
Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood, when their volume increased by 10% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Japan was the major importer of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 66% of total imports in 2021. Australia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total imports. While the share of Japan (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Australia (-2.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported builders' joinery and carpentry of wood in Asia-Pacific, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Japan amounted to +2.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+4.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+4.9% per year).
