The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, carbon dioxide exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from China (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and India (X tons), together resulting at 83% of total export. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), achieving a 6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Australia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - each accounted for a 5.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +26.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest carbon dioxide supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 53% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +19.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -4.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carbon dioxide export price increased by +68.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, purchases abroad of carbon dioxide increased by 5.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, carbon dioxide imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X tons), followed by South Korea (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), China (X tons), Papua New Guinea (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) were the largest importers of carbon dioxide, together creating 70% of total imports. The Philippines (X tons), New Zealand (X tons), Fiji (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest carbon dioxide importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Singapore ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 35% share of total imports. New Zealand, Taiwan (Chinese), Hong Kong SAR, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Papua New Guinea, with a CAGR of +31.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carbon dioxide import price decreased by -10.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
