Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X units), India (X units) and Thailand (X units) represented roughly 92% of total exports in 2022. Malaysia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 13% share.
In China, ceramic sanitary ware exports increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (-8.0% per year) and India (-10.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, waning by -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 13%. In 2022, overseas purchases of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures decreased by -27.5% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X units) was the major importer of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, creating 34% of total imports. Thailand (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (10%) and Cambodia (7.7%). Lao People's Democratic Republic (X units), Nepal (X units), Malaysia (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Afghanistan (X units), Northern Mariana Islands (X units), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X units), Guam (X units) and Tuvalu (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tuvalu (+87.1%), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+67.4%), Guam (+59.0%), Northern Mariana Islands (+53.1%), Thailand (+24.3%), Cambodia (+10.9%), Nepal (+5.0%) and Singapore (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tuvalu emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +87.1% from 2012-2022. Lao People's Democratic Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Afghanistan (-3.1%), Malaysia (-3.3%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+11 p.p.), Thailand (+9.5 p.p.), Cambodia (+5.1 p.p.), Singapore (+4.1 p.p.), Northern Mariana Islands (+1.6 p.p.), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+1.6 p.p.), Tuvalu (+1.6 p.p.) and Guam (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -6.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures in Asia-Pacific, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cambodia ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +5.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cambodia (+15.7% per year) and Singapore (+4.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 42% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
