The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of cereal germ, when their volume decreased by -23.3% to X tons. Total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +53.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 80%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cereal germ exports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), generating a 5.3% share of total exports. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and China (X tons) - each resulted at a 6.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cereal germ exports from Indonesia stood at +2.3%. At the same time, India (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012-2021. China and Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Indonesia (+3.5 p.p.) and India (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest cereal germ supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Indonesia amounted to -2.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+9.0% per year) and China (+1.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of cereal germ increased by 48% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 192%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, cereal germ imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 64%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

South Korea represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 65% of total imports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), comprising a 25% share of total imports. Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into South Korea increased at an average annual rate of +30.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+77.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +77.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Korea and India increased by +39 and +25 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cereal germ in Asia-Pacific, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Korea totaled +26.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+50.0% per year) and Japan (+10.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country
