Other Cereals Market Size in Asia-Pacific

After two years of growth, the Asia-Pacific other cereals market decreased by -10.3% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Other Cereals Production in Asia-Pacific

In value terms, other cereals production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together accounting for 86% of total production. Lao People's Democratic Republic, India, South Korea and New Zealand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +3.7%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average other cereals yield in Asia-Pacific expanded to X tons per ha, rising by 2.1% on 2020. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 8.2%. Over the period under review, the other cereals yield reached the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2021, the total area harvested in terms of other cerealses production in Asia-Pacific dropped modestly to X ha, with a decrease of -3.2% compared with the previous year. In general, the harvested area saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to other cereals production attained the peak figure at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, overseas shipments of other cerealses decreased by -8.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other cereals exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 60%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 42% of total exports. China (X tons) took a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (11%) and Thailand (11%). The following exporters - Myanmar (X tons) and Australia (X tons) - each finished at an 8.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +28.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 78% of total exports. Australia, Myanmar and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Among the main exporting countries, Australia, with a CAGR of +25.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, other cereals export price increased by +48.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, supplies from abroad of other cerealses decreased by -30.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals imports reduced to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of other cerealses, namely China, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together comprising a 15% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), Japan (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) - together made up 9% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +33.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Australia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +36.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
