Indonesia was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 46% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by New Zealand (17%) and China (9.3%). Australia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphite wood pulp exports from Indonesia stood at -13.3%. At the same time, China (+22.4%) and New Zealand (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -10.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphite wood pulp imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Indonesia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2021. China (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Australia (5.5%). Pakistan (X tons) and Japan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +23.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Australia and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
