Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 35%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

By contrast, South Korea (-2.2%), Australia (-3.8%), Thailand (-3.9%), Singapore (-5.7%) and India (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+3.2 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.9 p.p.) and Japan (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-5.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Asia-Pacific, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.4% share.

In Japan, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports decreased by an average annual rate of -5.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-4.9% per year) and South Korea (+2.4% per year).
