After two years of growth, overseas purchases of chromates, dichromates and peroxochromates decreased by -24.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chromates imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Japan represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 40% of total imports. China (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held near 50% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +3.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chromates, dichromates and peroxochromates in Asia-Pacific, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 14% share.

In Japan, chromates imports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-3.2% per year) and India (-4.2% per year).
