In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Asia-Pacific spacecraft market, when its value decreased by -1.4% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spacecraft production rose markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 75%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, overseas shipments of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles increased by 1,622% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, spacecraft exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 193%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. China (X units) and South Korea (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +241.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, China (+109.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Korea (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+95 p.p.) and China (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Korea (-97.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, China ($X), South Korea ($X) and India ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +115.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -91.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 136%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Spacecraft Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles decreased by -96% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports saw a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 484% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, spacecraft imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 176%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles, namely China, the Philippines and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. India (X units), Solomon Islands (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +5,200.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Malaysia ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 96% of total imports. Indonesia, the Philippines, Solomon Islands and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 1.5%.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +120.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 873% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed strong growth. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+51.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
