Combine Harvester Market Size in Asia-Pacific
After two years of growth, the Asia-Pacific combine harvester market decreased by -0.9% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +77.7% against 2015 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Combine Harvester Production in Asia-Pacific
In value terms, combine harvester production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -3.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 27%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Combine Harvester Exports
Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, overseas shipments of combine harvester-threshers decreased by -8.1% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, combine harvester exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 30%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
China was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which reached 52% of total exports. Thailand (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by India (19%). Japan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+27.9%), India (+10.9%) and Japan (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2022. Thailand (+20 p.p.) and India (+6.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Japan and China saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -23.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total exports.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +13.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -12.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Combine Harvester Imports
Imports in Asia-Pacific
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of combine harvester-threshers decreased by -30.6% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, combine harvester imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X units) represented the key importer of combine harvester-threshers, comprising 41% of total imports. The Philippines (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Bangladesh (X units), Australia (X units), Cambodia (X units) and Pakistan (X units). All these countries together held near 37% share of total imports. South Korea (X units), China (X units), Thailand (X units), Sri Lanka (X units), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to combine harvester imports into India stood at +47.1%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+80.7%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+46.3%), Thailand (+12.3%), Indonesia (+10.6%), the Philippines (+10.2%), Sri Lanka (+9.6%), Cambodia (+8.0%), Pakistan (+7.0%), South Korea (+5.1%) and Australia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +80.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Vietnam (-8.7%) and China (-11.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+39 p.p.), Bangladesh (+7.9 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Korea (-2 p.p.), Australia (-7.4 p.p.), Vietnam (-8.5 p.p.) and China (-24.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported combine harvester-threshers in Asia-Pacific, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Cambodia, with an 8.2% share.
In Australia, combine harvester imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+7.7% per year) and Cambodia (+6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 28% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per unit), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
