After five years of decline, overseas shipments of concentrated orange juice increased by 20% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) represented the largest exporters of concentrated orange juice in Asia-Pacific, together reaching near 56% of total exports. Nepal (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (8%) and Australia (5.1%). The following exporters - China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - each recorded a 5.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were Thailand ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), together accounting for 62% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +6.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of concentrated orange juice decreased by -2.7% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 4.8%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China was the largest importer of concentrated orange juice in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Australia (7.9%) and South Korea (5.6%). India (X tons), New Zealand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Fiji (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated orange juice imports into China stood at +5.4%. At the same time, Fiji (+18.1%), India (+5.7%), Indonesia (+5.5%) and New Zealand (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-4.0%), Australia (-4.2%), Thailand (-4.7%), Japan (-9.0%) and South Korea (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+23 p.p.), India (+2 p.p.) and Indonesia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Korea and Japan saw its share reduced by -9.5% and -13.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Japan ($X) and Australia ($X), with a combined 70% share of total imports. South Korea, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Fiji lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Among the main importing countries, Fiji, with a CAGR of +14.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
