Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The shipments of the five major exporters of copper bars, wire and plates, namely South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 7.6% share, followed by Indonesia (7.3%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +15.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper bars, wire and plates supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 52% share of total exports. Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +16.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons), distantly followed by India (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented the largest importers of copper bars, wire and plates, together committing 78% of total imports. The following importers - Japan (X tons), Australia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported copper bars, wire and plates in Asia-Pacific, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+4.2% per year) and India (+4.6% per year).
