The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cow peas exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 92% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Myanmar was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 62% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Afghanistan (8%) and India (8%). The following exporters - Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), China (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 7.4% of total exports.

Myanmar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cow peas (dry) exports, with a CAGR of +113.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, India (+17.6%), Vietnam (+8.2%) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (-6.9%), Afghanistan (-11.8%) and China (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Myanmar (+62 p.p.) and India (+6.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of China (-10 p.p.), Thailand (-16.8 p.p.) and Afghanistan (-23.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Myanmar ($X) remains the largest cow peas supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Myanmar stood at +102.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (-7.0% per year) and India (+23.0% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -11.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 42%. China, with a CAGR of +139.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, waning by -9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
