The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), generating a 7.2% share of total exports. The following exporters - Indonesia (X tons) and China (X tons) - each reached a 5.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to crispbread exports from Thailand stood at +1.4%. At the same time, Malaysia (+22.7%), China (+12.9%) and Indonesia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +22.7% from 2012-2021. Malaysia (+5.9 p.p.) and China (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -3.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest crispbread supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 1.8% share.

In Thailand, crispbread exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+16.5% per year) and China (+13.8% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of crispbread increased by 24% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crispbread imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Australia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) represented the major importer of crispbread in Asia-Pacific, constituting 83% of total import. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), making up a 5.4% share of total imports. The following importers - Tonga (X tons) and Solomon Islands (X tons) - each finished at a 4.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Solomon Islands (with a CAGR of +41.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Myanmar ($X), Australia ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 50% share of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Tonga lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Among the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +34.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 23%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Tonga ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
