In 2021, China (X tons), distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons), India (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented the key exporters of dried or smoked fish, together making up 88% of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) - each resulted at a 4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 69% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +17.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 9.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dried or smoked fish export price increased by +54.7% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Australia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried or smoked fish in Asia-Pacific, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 11% share.
