In 2021, the Asia-Pacific ECG market decreased by -7% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, posted resilient growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in overseas shipments of electro-cardiographs, which increased by 13% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ECG exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, China (X units) represented the key exporter of electro-cardiographs, mixing up 50% of total exports. India (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (10%), South Korea (8.8%) and Malaysia (8.3%). Hong Kong SAR (X units) and Japan (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ECG exports from China stood at +6.9%. At the same time, Singapore (+19.1%), India (+15.3%), Malaysia (+14.8%) and Hong Kong SAR (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012-2021. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, Singapore and Malaysia increased by +6.9, +6.4 and +3.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), China ($X) and Singapore ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Singapore, with a CAGR of +33.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ECG export price increased by +68.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, supplies from abroad of electro-cardiographs decreased by -38% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 127%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, ECG imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Singapore (X units), distantly followed by Japan (X units), India (X units), Australia (X units), Malaysia (X units), Thailand (X units), South Korea (X units), China (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) were the major importers of electro-cardiographs, together constituting 89% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +31.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electro-cardiographs in Asia-Pacific, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with an 8.3% share.
