In 2021, the Asia-Pacific gas and smoke analyser market decreased by -18.5% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 104%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, gas and smoke analyser exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +35.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X units), mixing up a 10% share of total exports. Japan (X units), Thailand (X units), Vietnam (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gas and smoke analyser exports from China stood at +39.7%. At the same time, Vietnam (+45.6%), Hong Kong SAR (+19.9%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+18.5%), Thailand (+13.3%) and South Korea (+11.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +45.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+50 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-3.6 p.p.), South Korea (-16.8 p.p.) and Japan (-29 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest gas and smoke analyser supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 11% share.

In China, gas and smoke analyser exports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+12.0% per year) and Japan (-3.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -13% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of gas and smoke analysers imported in Asia-Pacific skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 36% against the year before. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

South Korea (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by India (6.5%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Indonesia (X units), Thailand (X units) and Japan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gas and smoke analyser imports into China stood at +12.7%. At the same time, Thailand (+32.9%), India (+25.4%), South Korea (+22.1%), Japan (+11.3%), Indonesia (+4.8%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Korea, India and Thailand increased by +9.3, +3.9 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), South Korea ($X) and India ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -11.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
