The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons), distantly followed by Myanmar (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the largest exporters of flours, meals and pellets of fish, together committing 94% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +39.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fish meals and pellet supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 87% of total exports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fish meals and pellet export price increased by +101.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of flours, meals and pellets of fish increased by 9.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fish meals and pellet imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a slight reduction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
