In value terms, seafood meals and pellets exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +8.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 59%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the largest exporters of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs in Asia-Pacific, together reaching approx. 45% of total exports. India (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by South Korea (9.3%), Myanmar (8.9%), Pakistan (7.6%) and New Zealand (4.8%).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 20%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, purchases abroad of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +16.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 69% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 5.7% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (5.4%) and Vietnam (4.9%). Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+17.1%), South Korea (+5.2%) and Vietnam (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +17.1% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.7%) and Japan (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+7.8 p.p.) and Thailand (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -6.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs in Asia-Pacific, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 5.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +5.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-5.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
