In 2021, the Asia-Pacific fluorspar market decreased by -6.8% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +101.8% against 2017 indices. The total production indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. Fluorspar exports reached X tons in 2021, growing by 6.4% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 18%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorspar exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China represented the main exporter of fluorspar in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 46% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together mixing up a 42% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Pakistan (with a CAGR of +22.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fluorspar supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Pakistan ($X), together comprising 92% of total exports.

Pakistan, with a CAGR of +24.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, fluorspar imports in Asia-Pacific expanded modestly to X tons, with an increase of 2.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 65%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, fluorspar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the key importer of fluorspar, constituting 54% of total imports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together creating a 40% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fluorspar imports into China stood at +20.6%. At the same time, Indonesia (+40.9%), India (+11.1%) and South Korea (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +40.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.3%) and Japan (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+32 p.p.), Indonesia (+5.3 p.p.) and India (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea and Japan saw its share reduced by -4%, -6.4% and -29.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +42.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
