Over the period under review, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together mixing up an 11% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat exports, with a CAGR of +64.2% from 2012 to 2022. Malaysia (-10.7%) and Australia (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +89 percentage points.

The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After four years of decline, supplies from abroad of fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat increased by 13% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fresh pork cut imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Korea represented the key importer of fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Brunei Darussalam (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons), together making up a 39% share of total imports. The following importers - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Samoa (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fresh pork cut imports into South Korea stood at +1.5%. At the same time, Vietnam (+39.9%), Hong Kong SAR (+18.2%), Japan (+9.0%) and Samoa (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Brunei Darussalam (-10.5%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-19.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR and Samoa increased by +27, +11, +9.6, +5.6 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest fresh pork cut importing markets in Asia-Pacific were South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), together accounting for 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese) and Samoa, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +36.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, fresh pork cut import price increased by +43.9% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
