Exports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of glucose and glucose syrup, when their volume increased by 2.5% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, glucose exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 63% of total exports. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Thailand (7%) and Pakistan (5.1%). Vietnam (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+8.3%), Thailand (+7.3%), India (+4.1%) and Pakistan (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2021. Thailand (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while China saw its share reduced by -3.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest glucose supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +3.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+3.0% per year) and Pakistan (+11.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+17.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of glucose and glucose syrup imported in Asia-Pacific declined modestly to X tons, which is down by -4.8% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 42%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, glucose imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.0% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main importers of glucose and glucose syrup in 2021, reaching approx. 24% and 20% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together making up a 42% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest glucose importing markets in Asia-Pacific were the Philippines ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 52% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
