The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -27.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nepal represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), India (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons), together constituting a 29% share of total exports. China (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Nepal increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+35.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (+19.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +35.6% from 2012-2021. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Australia (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nepal (+31 p.p.), India (+5.1 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Australia (-32.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest grapefruit juice (single strength) supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were Nepal ($X), Australia ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a combined 82% share of total exports. These countries were followed by India and China, which together accounted for a further 8.8%.
India, with a CAGR of +35.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of grapefruit juice (single strength) imported in Asia-Pacific soared to X tons, with an increase of 44% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.6% against 2017 indices. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China represented the key importer of grapefruit juice (single strength) in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. South Korea (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (16%) and Japan (9.9%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grapefruit juice (single strength) imports into China stood at +28.3%. At the same time, India (+39.5%) and South Korea (+32.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +39.5% from 2012-2021. Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest grapefruit juice (single strength) importing markets in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further 11%.
India, with a CAGR of +38.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
