In 2022, the Asia-Pacific graphic papers market decreased by -4.2% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) and China (X tons) were the major exporters of graphic papers in Asia-Pacific, together finishing at approx. 62% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 14%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in China ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of graphic papers decreased by -28% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Vietnam (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Japan (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 34% share of total imports. The following importers - South Korea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +5.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 43% of total imports. Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Pakistan and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +4.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
