The Asia-Pacific groundnut oil market fell slightly to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a abrupt decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Groundnut Oil Production in Asia-Pacific
In value terms, groundnut oil production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of groundnut oil, when their volume decreased by -34.1% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 404% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, groundnut oil exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 457%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
India dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), making up an 8.2% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the groundnut oil exports, with a CAGR of +21.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, China (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (+29 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR and China saw its share reduced by -5.5% and -17.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest groundnut oil supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled +18.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-0.4% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-0.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
For the fifth consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in supplies from abroad of groundnut oil, which increased by 12% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, groundnut oil imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 79%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
China prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 91% of total imports in 2021. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +19.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Afghanistan (+115.4%) and Hong Kong SAR (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Afghanistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +115.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Afghanistan increased by +11 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported groundnut oil in Asia-Pacific, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 5% share of total imports.
In China, groundnut oil imports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+2.5% per year) and Afghanistan (+102.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, growing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
