Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 51% of total exports. India (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 9.7% share.

In China, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+13.5% per year) and Japan (+2.4% per year).

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, when their volume increased by 25% to X tons. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Japan was the main importer of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 41% of total imports in 2021. In value terms, the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Japan ($X), India ($X) and China ($X), together comprising 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Cambodia, the Philippines and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 20%.

Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +42.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
