The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.3% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 26%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 63%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) were the key exporters of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons in 2022, recording near 28% and 25% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and India (X tons), together making up a 45% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +5.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+7.0% per year) and Indonesia (+17.3% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 8.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons decreased by -14.4% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 56%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

India (X tons) and China (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +9.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 58% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price increased by +58.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
