Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of insecticides exported in Asia-Pacific rose markedly to X tons, picking up by 8.8% compared with the year before. Overall, exports posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, insecticide exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
China represented the main exporter of insecticides in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 55% of total exports in 2021. India (X tons) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (7%). The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up 6.7% of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+12.2%), Thailand (+10.2%), South Korea (+5.9%) and Indonesia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +12.2% from 2012-2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (+7.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -4.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest insecticide supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were India ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 76% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, India, with a CAGR of +10.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, insecticide export price decreased by -0.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, the amount of insecticides imported in Asia-Pacific stood at X tons, picking up by 9.4% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, insecticide imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), India (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), Japan (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Australia (X tons) and China (X tons) was the key importer of insecticides in Asia-Pacific, generating 79% of total import. Nepal (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insecticides in Asia-Pacific, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India stood at +6.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+12.0% per year) and Vietnam (+6.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 10%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
